#8 Saturday in Leipzig (Family Time and Fußball Tag)

SATURDAY - no school, no travel - a perfect day to enjoy some football (the German kind 😉).

It was a little less hectic today, and everyone was able to catch up on a bit of sleep after an eventful week. Some of the students went out for breakfast with their families, and from the looks of it, a "typical" German breakfast did not disappoint. Others walked around town or just relaxed in the morning.

Around 2:30 PM, it was time to join the masses (ca. 45,000) to venture to the RB Leipzig Fußball stadium for our first LIVE Bundesliga soccer match between RB Leipzig and Mainz 05. Unfortunately we were not exactly the "Lucky Charms" (Glücksbringer) that RB Leipzig needed - RB Leipzig lost 0-3. But the outcome did not deter us from having a great experience.

Here are Sabrina's and Martin's impressions from today:

Martin writes:
This morning was a very active day. My German exchange partner Max and I walked around the city and I bought some gifts for my brothers back home before we stopped for lunch and we enjoyed a very tasty Döner Box.

Afterwards we went to watch the RB Leipzig football match and thanks to my host family, I was able to support the local team, looking like a true fan.

Unfortunately, although I cheered the best I could, we lost but I still had a great time watching a soccer game in person for the first time. Max on the other hand was not so happy.

Hallo! Today we were able to sleep in late for the first time! And it was very much needed! 😃 After having a late breakfast of fresh Brezeln, we headed towards the football stadium.

Even though our team lost, it was still a great experience. I
especially loved the chants and atmosphere in the stadium.

After the game, Alma and I went into the city center, and she showed me some of her favorite shops. Lastly we ate a delicious dinner at an Asian Fusion restaurant.

Despite the RB Leipzig loss, it was another great day, full of new experiences, and adventures and plenty of memories were made.  Tomorrow will be another "sports" day when we will go to watch another very popular sport in Germany: Handball

Until then - Gute Nacht und bis morgen!
